The DAS has been Patagonia's warmest synthetic parka since 1992, and the current version is the best iteration of it. The insulation is PrimaLoft Gold Eco with Cross Core technology, which fuses the synthetic fibers with aerogel. It's the same material used in NASA spacesuits and industrial insulation. The result is a synthetic parka that approaches down warmth-to-weight ratios while retaining the crucial property that makes synthetic the right call in serious mountain conditions: it keeps insulating when wet.

The insulation runs 133g throughout, with an additional 40g at the core where it counts most on a belay or an unplanned bivy. The shell is 10-denier Pertex Quantum Pro with a PU dry coating and PFAS-free DWR. It is light enough to roll into a stuff sack, tough enough to handle rock and rope contact without babying. Single-point adjustable helmet-compatible hood with elasticized binding. Two-way center-front Vislon zipper with an internal wind flap. Two zippered handwarmer pockets, two interior drop-in pockets, one left chest pocket. Elasticized side panels pull the jacket closer to the body for heat retention without bulk. Parka length covers the hips.

This is a specialized piece for people who climb, ski tour, or spend serious time in cold mountain environments. For commuting or casual use, it's more jacket than the task requires. For belaying a partner at 3am on a big wall or waiting out weather on a summit ridge, it's the right call.
